Education System in USA

Types of Programs:

Undergraduate or Bachelors degree program:

Students graduating from class 12 can apply for this program. The duration is of 4 years consisting of 120 credits. The students have choice of major and minor subjects. There are also 2 year programs after which the students can achieve “Associate Degree”. After 2 more years of study they can earn their Bachelors degree.

Graduate Program or a Masters degree

A graduate program usually involves one more year of study to earn a Masters degree like MBA or MS. A graduate program consists of 60 credits. To enroll into the Masters program the student must undergo 16 years of education. In India the student undergoes 15 years of education, that is 12 years of schooling and 3 years of Bachelor program. To enroll into a Masters program the student must undergo an additional year of education or take a bridge course in the University applied. Also, some Universities require the student to have some work experience.

In the US there are private and State funded Colleges and Universities. Each Institution can determine their own programs and admission requirements.
